AI visibility for a new brand: a 30-day plan
A new brand is invisible to AI assistants because almost nothing on the web mentions it. In 30 days you can fix the foundations and create dozens of indexed, consistent mentions: week 1 baseline and technical access, week 2 your own pages, week 3 press and directories, week 4 communities, reviews and a second measurement.
Updated · Citable
Week 1: baseline and access
- Write 15 to 20 prompts (brand, category, comparison, problem) and record answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. Method: check what AI says about your brand.
- Check robots.txt and CDN settings allow OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Googlebot and Bingbot. See AI crawlers and robots.txt.
- Verify your site in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools; submit your sitemap. See how to get indexed by Google.
- Write your fact sheet: name, one-liner, category, pricing, founders, logo. See entity SEO.
- Set up the AI channel in analytics: track AI traffic in GA4.
Week 2: your own pages
- Homepage: one sentence that says what you are and for whom, in plain words, near the top.
- Pricing page with real numbers in text.
- About page with founders, company, location and contact.
- Three to five pages answering your buyers' biggest questions, in the quotable format.
- A comparison page for your main competitor, honest about trade-offs.
- Organization schema with sameAs links. See structured data for AI search.
Week 3: press and directories
This is where the mentions come from. Two moves create the most indexed pages per hour of work:
- A press release on a newswire. Announce your launch, a feature or a milestone. Distributed releases appear on many news sites within a day or two, each naming your brand with your facts. See do press releases help AI citations? and the product launch template.
- Directory listings. Product Hunt, AlternativeTo, SaaSHub, Indie Hackers and dozens of startup directories. Each listing states your category and use case. See best startup directories.
Use your fact sheet for every listing so the descriptions match.
Week 4: communities, reviews and measuring again
- Answer three to five real questions in communities where your buyers ask for tools, disclosing who you are. See Reddit and AI answers.
- Ask your first ten happy users for a review on G2, Capterra or Trustpilot.
- Pitch two or three authors of "best X" articles that AI answers cite for your category.
- Day 30: re-run every prompt. Note new mentions, new cited sources and changes in descriptions.
What to expect
Brand prompts with search on usually change first: assistants find your new press pages and listings and start describing you. Category prompts take longer, because you are competing with brands that have years of coverage; narrow, specific prompts move before broad ones. Answers from model memory change only when new models ship. Keep adding mentions every month, and re-run the same prompts so you can see the trend.
Questions people ask
Can a new brand appear in ChatGPT within a month?
For questions about the brand itself, with search on, often yes, once pages naming it are indexed. Being recommended for competitive category questions usually takes longer and more coverage.
What is the single most effective step?
For most new brands, creating third-party pages that name them, because that is what assistants read. A press release and directory listings are the fastest way to many such pages.
